Ruddisms
In the political arena - politicians are the gladiators, words are their weapons and elections are won and lost on how well opponents battle it out in front of the audience.

In the universe where a punchy 20second sound bite is king and getting a run on the evening bulletins for the right reasons, akin to scoring a goal in the grand final of your choice – the right catchphrase, the perfect bon mot is what every political party needs.

Of course, not every phrase works but our politicians throw them out into the arena and see what takes root. Our Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, is a master of staying on message and using catchphrases to tickle the electrorate…

Q&A has put together a few choice moments of “Ruddisms” and invite you to mash them up and have some fun.

The Liberal Leadership
When it comes to politics everyone wants to be the leader, yet there is only one spot. Who gets it is can be a complicated affair. Currently, the spotlight is on the Liberal Party. So, is Brendan Nelson a safe bet? Is Peter Costello about to return? Can Malcolm Turnbull convince his colleagues he has what it takes?

Or, are the media making a whole lot of fuss over nothing? Are these current leadership antics just more of the same? After all, John Howard spent a lot of his time as PM reassuring his party and the electorate that Peter Costello was happy to remain his deputy. And John Howard held the top job until he was voted out of office in 2007. Leadership stoushes are great theatre – there’s drama, suspense, betrayal and finally defeat or victory.

We want to know what you think so mash up now!

Instructions

Download

You can download a range of clips (video/audio/graphics) to make your own mash up. The best mash up will close Q&A. Right click on the link and select 'Save to disk'.

Edit

Using the editing software of your choice (Final Cut Pro, iMovies etc) and any footage or sound effects you have recorded, create your own mash up. Please note that these are Quicktime files 1024 x 576 pixels, using an H264 codec.

Upload or Send

When you’ve made your masterpiece, upload your mash-up to the gallery.

Mash ups will need to be less than 100 megabytes in size for a successful upload. For maximum quality versus file size, we would recommend exporting your (60sec) mashup as Quicktime H264 (the same format as the download files), High quality Flash or other standard formats may also be accepted. If your exported mash up is too large to upload we recommend that you reduce the pixel size to 512 x 288 rather than over compressing to fit within the file limitations. Alternatively, you can also choose to send us a DVD of your work. Our address is: GPO Box 9994, Sydney, 2001.
