SHOW & TELL

Meerschaum?

These beautifully carved chess pieces came from Greece in the late 1960's.. For years, we thought they were ivory, but was informed they are not. But what are they? There are NO seams. I am sure they are hand carved. Someone told me they may be bakelite. I found a website that explained a few tests to determine bakelite. The pieces did not pass the tests. Now, someone else suggests that they may be meerschaum. I really hope so, but how do I tell? I've found what meerschaum is, but nowhere can I find how to determine it. Can someone help?
