Andy Caldecott

An estimated 2500 local, national and international friends and family of the late Andy Caldecott said farewell in his hometown of Keith, South Australia. [ more ]

The 41-year-old from Keith in South Australia suffered a fatal neck injury after a crash during the 599-kilometre stage 9 of the Dakar rally.

Caldecott was a four-time Australian Safari winner who finished sixth in last year's Dakar. Andy won this year's third stage and was standing 10th overall at the time of his death.

Andy was a champion on a bike, but as we all found out, it was not motorcycle success that made him a champion. Friends and fans from all around the world have left messages in the ABC guestbook highlighting their respect and love for Andy and his family. [ read the archived guestbook ]
