Bush Telegraph wants to hear your point of view.

Radio National's Bush Telegraph is a national radio program that explores country matters, lifestyles, and issues from a personal or community perspective, rather than through the normal news and current affairs angles adopted in most media.

The segment, 'Country Viewpoint', invites people from all over the country to express a view about a current feature or aspect of rural or remote area living. We record the viewpoints which are broadcast just before the 12:00 o'clock news at the end of the program.

The segments may be funny, serious, topical, historical, political or just about something that's irritating. Through these segments, we hope that Australian audiences will get an insight into what people are talking and thinking about around the country. Once the segments are broadcast, we'll put them onto the internet, so that they can be accessed by an even wider audience. Have a look at transcripts of viewpoints we have broadcast to get an idea of the range of views and styles contributed.

There are roughly 450 words (around a page of type) in two and a half minutes of radio. In our experience, the best thing is for you to type out your point of view, then e-mail it to us. When you're writing it down, put it down in the way you speak (for instance, the way you'd explain it to a friend around a dinner table). Use examples, and in delivering your message, don't forget to tell the good with the bad. These are not meant to be short stories. They are more like letters or a conversation you'd have with a friend, with your voice and delivery.

When we get what you've written, we'll make some minor changes, so that it sounds more natural, but we won't be interfering with your message or content. Then, we can arrange a time to record your "Viewpoint" at an ABC station near you.
