Drought roundtable leaves farmers wanting more
A horticulture lobby group says it's pleased with the direction the national drought policy is headed but says much more needs to be done.
Queensland's first public hearing to discuss the Productivity Commission's draft inquiry report into Government drought support was held in Brisbane yesterday.
Growcom says the draft requires further investigation into irrigation drought.
Chief advocate with the group, Mark Panitz, says the report also needs to look at time frames and risk management.
Caring for our country business plan welcomed
Queensland's regional natural resource management bodies have welcomed the Federal Government's business plan for the 'Caring for our country program'.
The Rudd government announced after the election that the Natural Heritage Trust was going to be replaced with the new program, and it's had natural resource management groups waiting for advice on amounts of funding ever since.
The Queensland regional NRM group's collective, CEO, Andrew Drysdale says the Commonwealth will invest 2.25 billion dollars though the program.
He says the recently released business plan acknowledges the value of regional delivery.
