On your new album Coverage, you sing songs written and performed in the '60s, '70s and '80s. Why do you like these songs so much?
The music on the album is not actually music that I grew up listening to, but songs that I have fallen in love with it over the last few years.
I was a bit selfish, I guess. I just recorded songs by singers that I loved, not really knowing if I could do them well. I'm such a fan of Elton John and it was really hard to pick just one of his songs to cover on the album. But, in the end, I just picked my favourite: 'Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters'. It's a love song to New York, and I love New York too.
(Question by Miss Mod)

What's your advice to anyone who wants to be a singer?
Never pass up an opportunity because you don't know who is sitting in the audience.
(Question by Slobba)

How did you first break into show business?
I grew up doing musical theatre in Orlando, Florida. When I was 14 I just happened to be in the right place at the right time - a deliveryman heard me singing and offered to deliver my demo tape to Sony Music. I was just really lucky.
(Question by Tweak)

What is your first love, singing or acting?
Music definitely. It's my first love. I enjoy both but if I ever had to choose I'd pick singing.
(Question by PipMod)

We heard that in one of your films you got to choose a bottom double. Is this true, and if it is, how did you make your choice?
It's true! It was really hard to choose. I couldn't be objective so I asked some guys on set to help me. We picked the one that was most like mine. The guys weighed in on the situation pretty heavily! They were like, 'Oh no, her butt is nothing like yours' or 'Yeah, she's the one!
(Question by PipMod)

Your latest film is called How To Deal. What's the toughest thing you've ever had to deal with?
Growing up in the public eye was really tough. When you're 14 and your body is changing, your life is changing, and people are watching every step you make, it's really hard to deal with. But I was pretty lucky, people didn't watch me that closely. But for someone like Britney Spears who did have her whole life scrutinized it must have been terrible.
(Question by Miss Mod)

If you could invite three people from any time in history to dinner, who would they be?
Ooh goodness, that's so hard! I'd invite Jeff Buckley - I'm a huge fan of his - and Audrey Hepburn. Who else do I love? Bette Midler!
(Question by Tweak)

Cats or dogs?
Dogs. I have three: two yorkies named Oliver and Winston, and a pug called Dexter.
(Question by Mois)

The first song I ever performed was...Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. I had a little karaoke machine in my room when I was 10 and I used to sing that sing all the time!
(Question by Chrystal)

I am most inspired by...
Gwen Stefani. She kicks ass!
(Question by Slobba)

If I could sing a duet with anyone it would be with...
John Mayer.
(Question by Jegger)

In three words, I'd describe myself as...
Sensitive, charismatic and outgoing.
(Question by Cilla)

If you could design your own rollercoaster, it would be called...
The vomiter! Because it would have so many twists and turns and loops you'd feel like you wanted to be sick when you got off!
