Changi Diary

The late Don McLaren was only 19 years old when his AIF unit was taken prisoner by the Japanese, after the fall of Singapore in 1942. During the three years that Don spent as a POW -- first in Changi, and later on the Burma Railway -- he kept a secret diary where he recorded all the death and the sickness, the frustration and boredom, the humour and bathos, and also the sheer bloody-minded human will to survive. We hear readings from Don McLaren's diary, which offers a personal and candid insight into the experience of an Australian POW during World War Two.
