Acting Morally

Clive Hamilton believes the moral relativism of contemporary Western society is a product of affluence and freedom, but he also argues in his new book The Freedom Paradox that a moral life is possible in a post-religious, post-secular world. Michael Benedikt in Texas contributes to this discussion by proposing a whole new way of thinking about God, in which God is the active expression of the good, where it is the conduct not the consciousness that counts.

In Search of Sacred Places

Tony Grey set out to visit seven places in the world that were gateways to the sacred - Kakadu, Damascus and Assisi, the ancient Greek city of Delphi, Jerusalem's West Wall, the Egyptian temples at Abydos, and the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. As founder of Australia's Pancontinental Mining Company, he's had a commercial connection to the land, but discovered on his journey that the spiritual connection to place is real and life-changing. We also hear briefly from Israeli archaeological guide, Walter Zanger, who takes Christians and Jews to their sacred places in Israel with sometimes surprising results.  Read Transcript
