This week's program starts out with a piece from two lads who draw on the great American songbook for inspiration. They take well known pieces and then play them in a way that works around the melody - check out their interpretation of camptown races. There's great new electronica from a woman who grew up in East Germany, then made pop music in the West and now makes a kind of sonic investigation into composition. New stuff from the Orb, Man Man, Santogold and much more [even new Daniel Lanois].

Chock-o-full of wonderful new sounds. Ranging from the American songbook [as interpreted by an avant garde jazz outfit drawing on 20s-30s jazz, blues and country], to a chap who has worked with Steve Hillage, Sinead O'Connor and Brian Eno and now uses 21st century tech. There's psychedelic bongos and a sort of new take of counterpoint that has squeaks and echos bouncing of each other. And these are only some of the elements in only the first hour.

Prepare yourself for some special programming...a live in-studio session from one of the acts that are making a real difference to the concept of improvised jazz. Roam The Hello Clouds will be performing live for Sound Quality this Friday. This three-piece comprises drums, trumpet and sampler. The horn and drums play live and are then sampled, processed and fed back into the mix, then the drums and horn improvise with the added element. Rich and lush, but their deft playing maintain a minimal overall sound, never succumbing to the temptation of letting the technology take over. This is real musicianship and technology combining to distil something that is quite special. And there's added excitement, with a bonus that can have you enjoying this session for as long as you like. The program will be available as a download an hour or so after broadcast.

Orchestral folk music, a dark spin on old time Americana, swing chronicled through last and this century, beautiful dark folk music, new Autechre and a triple CD set from the hugely important Ninja Tunes label. And that's only the first hour.

What a weight of diverse sounds await you this week. There's a bunch of locals under the name of Box Freezer Romance who do a kind of sea shanty meets Morris dancing - with a 21st century indie twist. Then a new US artist who is taking the world by storm with his very calm approach [I'm not convinced, so I want your opinion on this act]. There's also Natacha Atlas helping out the Temple of Sound, great new beats from Headman, Keiran Hebdan [aka Four Tet] recording and reconstructing Sunburned Hand of the Man, classically trained in piano, violin and viola - Kelley Polar with a kind of disco string thing. And that's only the first hour. In the second hour, the above mentioned Four Tet selected and mix the regluar Coldcut's Solid Steel Radio Show along with more new releases.
