Music that simulates a chess game, effected viola and voice, free jazz/noise, and the new project from Will Holland [Quantic]... that's the first four tracks - then middle eastern influenced world sound from Adelaide, lush post rock from Melbourne, pop from a French/Finnish duo, the new project from the team that created the Gorillaz and a triple box set looking at the output of Buzzin' Fly records.

The first hour starts with some wonderful new releases featuring female vocals [3 new albums], then a new release that deals with sexual acts in a really interesting way - somewhat awkward listening, but really worthwhile. There is also Ollo remixed, music for effected accordion, new rhythms from Tussle and a great new release from Natural Self.

This week goes as far as you can in the world of genre hopping. Starting with the oud work of a master player teaming up with a jazz pianist, a clarinettist and percussion. Then on to nu folk/electronica/story telling from Melbourne, new age classical Indian meets sax from Mullumbimby, smooth electro/soft pop recorded in Thailand, and Patti Smith teaming up with Kevin Shields [My Bloody Valentine] for a live recording of spoken word and guitars and effects. That's only part one.

In 1979, an album was released that changed my view on where music could go. It was called Y and was made by The Pop Group. Nearly 30 years later [and 12 years after his last release] The Pop Group's vocalist/lyricist, Mark Stewart returns with his spin on sonic assault and political insights into contemporary urban life. This week's show starts off with two tracks form this album. Then there is some Scottish electroacoustic work, organ music from Switzerland, Ryuichi Sakamoto teaming up with David Sylvian and some Giorgio Moroder inspired house to round out the first hour.

The start of this weeks program is almost a technical study of why some people need computers to make music... then we go off on a jazz tangent for a while before coming back to a dark electronic future - that's the first hour. The second hour starts with a local woman, then a piece from a Compost compilation, more darker electronica from Ratatat and a track from a compile that plays homage to an empire built on a French cafe/bar/hotel concept.
