The sport of broadcasting rights
Sport has been big business for a long time now......but it's about to get even bigger with the latest television rights negotiations underway for two of the 'jewels' - the AFL and NRL.
There are predictions that the rights to broadcast Australian Rules could top one-billion dollars.
In this discussion, Saturday Extra explores a'take no prisoners' battle starting at the top end of town - filtering through Canberra - all the way down to the lounge rooms of Australia.
As the early negotiations get underway, all parties are also waiting to see whether the Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy (who's been busy putting out other pressing 'fires') has decided to change the rules about exactly who gets the rights to broadcast sports.
