A year in the markets

It's been a huge year in the world of economics and finance. The sub-prime mortgage crisis cut a swath through the markets and yet the sharemarket continued on its merry way.
There was the failure of the Qantas board to buy the airline and take it private, and as we head into 2008 one big question remains unanswered.
Will BHP prevail in its attempt to buy Rio Tinto, and in doing so forge the biggest mining powerhouse in the world?
