British Poll
|
Well if you think Australian politics is volatile just now, the Brits are experiencing there own version of political sword play.
Just three weeks ago Gordon Brown was riding high in the polls, flush with praise for his handling of the Glasgow bombings, the devastating summer floods and an outbreak of foot and mouth disease.
Those successes so soon after taking over from Tony Blair were apparently the impetus for a tilt at an early election, and the chance to govern in his own right for a full five year term.
But an ill-timed trip to Iraq and a resurgent opposition suddenly led to the election that was never was being called off, and Labor being left to lament how they could've got it so wrong.
But with a full two and half years still to run in this current cycle, what insights do these events give us into Labor's longer term fortunes, and in particular those of Gordon Brown?
