Megaprojects
|
They can cost many billions of dollars, they're essential components of societies the world over and even have the capacity to instil great national pride.
They're also inherently risky ventures that all too often end up as white elephants.
I'm talking about megaprojects -- the large pieces of infrastructure such as roadways, airports, bridges, energy plants, dams -- even Olympic games.
Typically we don't give them much thought, but what happens when they don't work out, and why is it that megaprojects too often turn into mega-disappointments?
