US mid-term elections

One of the big festivals of democracy gets underway next week, the mid-term elections in the United States.
We've heard lots on this in recent weeks, predictions aplenty and, if you believe the pundits, a likely rout for the Republicans in Congress.
But the closer we get to November 7, might those predictions prove to be not quite on the money?
