Australia's energy demand is forecast to grow by between 35 and 50 per cent over the next 20 years. So by 2020 our energy usage level will be 20 times what it was in 1960 and double what it was in 2000. Scare tactics aside, it does create a very real challenge for state and federal governments and their response to climate change and greenhouse emissions. A research group at the University of New South Wales have some serious concerns about one state government's effort to reduce greenhouse emissions - it's the NSW government's Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme.
