East Timor update

In New York overnight, the UN Security Council have agreed to maintain their current operations in East Timor, although only for a brief time. This latest move allows five more days to consider a series of recommendations for a new mission in East Timor. The UN mandate was set to expire tomorrow, but this has now been extended until the end of the week. Australia is an active player in this debate, especially when it comes to questions concerning the make-up and provision of security for East Timor. So just who will lead future security arrangements in East Timor and what role should Australia play?
