Music Deli

This week Music Deli presents a studio recording featuring a very original pair of local singer/songwriters and multi-instrumentalists -- Angus and Julia Stone, who are well on their way to huge local and international recognition.

Even though they've only been performing gigs for the last two years, they've already made a big impact on audiences in Australia and in the UK with their heartfelt songs and great musicianship. So far they've performed at most of our big music festivals including just last week at the East Coast Blues and Roots festival on the main MOJO stage. And they've been signed by EMI records, who have released a handful of EPs and their first full-length album, A Book Like this, which came out last year.

Not bad for a duo who are both in their early 20s.

Angus and Julia are based in Newport, which is on Sydney's northern peninsula, and this picturesque beach environment seems to have contributed to the very chilled style of many of their songs.

They're siblings who grew up in a household where everybody sang, and most of the time Angus and Julia sang harmonies while their mum led with the melody.

Throughout the program Julia talks about these early influences and introduces some of the songs. Along with Angus and Julia playing guitars, harmonica and piano Clay MacDonald plays bass with Steve Fernley on drums. Also adding some lovely textures into the mix are a string quartet featuring Heloise Pyne, Nikki Dobosi, Kerry Martin and Leo Kram.
