Music Deli Celebration is a very special collection of music that celebrates the diversity of the Australian music scene in the 21st century. Never before have there been so many styles of music on offer for radio listeners and concert and festival audiences around the country.
The cultural mix of Australia is reflected in the musical mix. Music Deli Celebration presents an amazing array of artists including folk star Lior, Broome's Pigram Brothers and the acclaimed Pitjanjatjarra songman Frank Yamma, to name a few.
What Music Deli celebrates above all is the 'live' performance of music. All the tracks on this CD are live recordings—no studio trickery or manufactured performances. All the music in this set was recorded live—in studios or at concerts or festivals around the country, and then broadcast in the program on ABC Radio National.
These performances are examples of the magic that happens when a performer connects with an audience through their music. The emotion, power and skills of the performer take us into their lives or stories for a short time.
And, not least, we're celebrating twenty years of Music Deli on ABC radio—presenting just the sort of musical mix that's on this CD. It has been, and still is, a fascinating journey.
