Shutter

Review
by Jason Di Rosso
Jane and her fashion photographer boyfriend Ben are Americans living in Tokyo, haunted by a ghost who starts appearing in the back of his shots. It turns out the spirit belongs to Ben's Japanese ex-girlfriend, and it's a lot harder to fob off a dead 'ex' than a live one. As Japanese horrors go (this is based on a 2004 Thai film), Shutter is run of the mill stuff. If only director Masayuki Ochiai had made bolder use of the twisted backstory involving Ben and the Japanese girlfriend, this could've been a searing feminist revenge horror.
