Nursing In South Sudan: Fiona Gillett

Nurse and midwife Fiona Gillett turned 40 and found the milestone to be a very challenging one.

'Where to now?' she asked.

The answer involved a most difficult, though empowering, assignment—a stint in the famine-affected and post-war torn South Sudan.

Fiona went to South Sudan under the auspices of the aid organisation Medecins Sans Frontieres.

In this interview, she talks of working in a treatment centre which saw about 1,000 patients a day.

Treating gunshot wounds from inter-clan violence and working hard to save malnourished babies was all part of her day in South Sudan.
