Irina Baronova tribute

We remember the ballerina Irina Baronova, who died last week aged 89.

She left Russia with her parents after the Revolution, danced on the world stage and socialised with legends like Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier.

Irina's fame was assured when she became one of the famous 'Three Baby Ballerinas' at the age of twelve. Her life was marked by great artistic achievement, constant travelling and then a secure and very happy second marriage which produced three children.

Irina Baronova settled in Byron Bay for her final years, and spoke to Life Matters in late 2005 when she published her life story.
