Housing crisis for older Australians
|
Older Australians on fixed incomes are calling for their housing needs to be recognised at a time of record housing unaffordability.
At a forum in Canberra yesterday, three peak organisations which work with older Australians joined forces, urging the government to get serious about tackling housing problems among the elderly.
The newly formed Housing Affordability for Seniors Alliance says more than one hundred thousand older Australians are in housing stress -- that number's doubled since 2004 and it's expected to get much worse.
