Vita Active 2: What is the Third Sector?

If you found the early start to summer weather a bit uncomfortable in your part of Australia, spare a thought for volunteer fire fighters who look like being busy right through spring and summer.
They might not know it but they're part of the burgeoning 'Third Sector' the subject of a new series here on Life Matters we're calling Vita Activa which means active life.
As we found out last week, volunteers are an integral part of our society but so too are the organisations within which they volunteer, the so called 'the third sector'.
But what exactly is the third sector? If you were in it would you know?
