The Sound of Blue

The Sound of Blue charts musician Linda Neil's journey in search of music that moves the listener to deep emotion. To answer the question 'What is it about music that makes people cry?' she tells the story of her own search for the sound of blue, a quest that took her away from classical music to the music of the street as she followed the call of love songs and Gypsy music.
To understand the individual and collective aspects of what music makes us cry, Linda Neil interviewed composer John Rodgers, music psychologist Bill Thompson, singer and performer Annie Lee, acclaimed classical musician David Pereira and cancer survivor Barbara Kelly, as well as people on the street. First broadcast on Into the Music in 2007, this program won a bronze medal at the 2008 New York Radio Festival awards.
