About Us

Journey 'Into The Music' with ABC Radio National's new program exploring and celebrating all aspects of music. Ranging across the history of music, the lives and experiences of musicians and the practices of music-making, 'Into The Music' enhances our understanding, appreciation and love of music as well as looking at its cultural and social context.

The style and the sound of each program varies: you may hear a documentary featuring interviews and illustrated with performance, or a more complex and multi-layered feature. 'Into The Music' also makes use of archival material and occasionally airs a special lecture or forum.

'Into the Music' covers all forms of music: modern rock and pop, jazz, blues, world, classical and more besides. It celebrates the emotional impact of music at the same time as opening a window onto the lives and works of great musicians and composers.

Robyn Johnston

Communicating and celebrating cultural expression of all kinds has been the passion that has informed Robyn Johnston's work over twenty years at the ABC, producing and presenting a wide range of programs with an emphasis on music and the arts.

On ABC Radio National in the late 1980s Robyn presented the Saturday morning music performance and arts discussion program In Tempo, then in 1990, founded the groundbreaking music program The Planet.

Robyn later devised Sunday morning's Melisma program, also on ABC Radio National, a new approach to exploring chamber music across the centuries. In 2001 she became the host of ABC TV's arts program Coast to Coast, a showcase for Australian creativity in its many forms.

In 2003 Robyn returned to ABC Radio National to present Nocturne on Sunday nights and now hosts Into The Music, features and documentaries exploring all aspects of music and music-making.

Robyn has also presented ABC Classic FM's live broadcasts in her home city of Perth and hosted special events for ABC TV including the Australian Singing Competition and the Young Performer's Awards at the Sydney Opera House.
