Reflecting on the place of music in spiritual practice since ancient times, this program explores the influence of mystical and religious preoccupations, such as Buddhism and Sufism, on the work of three contemporary musicians: Turkish maestro Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Australian percussionist Michael Askill and shakuhachi player Riley Lee. Historian and audio producer Harvey Broadbent has created an impressionistic musical mix to capture the mood of these musicians and to illustrate cultural cross-over and collaboration in music performance.

Australian composer Andrée Greenwell is breaking boundaries with her music theatre collaborations with poet Jordie Albiston. After Dreaming Transportation, which gave voice to the experience of women in colonial Sydney, now comes The Hanging of Jean Lee, a 'retro-indie rock musical' casting a spotlight on the last woman to be hanged in Australia. In this richly layered musical feature, a stellar line-up of musicians and singers, including Pippa Grandison, Hugo Race, Jeff Duff and Josh Quong Tart, join with the composer to reflect on her creative journey in bringing Jean Lee's dark story into the light.

Instrument making is usually a solitary pursuit, but when makers gathered in Albany on the south coast of Western Australia to discuss techniques and celebrate the craft, there was a palpable sense of collaboration and common purpose.
