GKRS - Ricky Skaggs and The Whites

Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder join Garrison Keillor with some show stopping guitar picking—and there's also an appearance from the first family of country music, The Whites.

GKRS - Charlotte in North Carolina

A toe tapping program with a feast of ragtime piano, as well as blues and country music. And in the News from Lake Wobegon, that little town on the edge of the prairie, it's been a quiet week there, as in every other week—except that the post office has the latest issue of new stamps so they're pretty pleased.

Sunday 10 August 2008

GKRS - Carole King

Garrison Keillor has been awarded the prestigious John Steinbeck Award which, in typical contrary fashion, he uses as a springboard for an extended meditation on the decline of his show. He dates it to the day the sound effects man joined the team—and, a warning, the program includes a rendition of the sound of an ice cream being dropped into a fax machine.

GKRS - Garrison Strikes a Pose

Garrison Keillor strikes a mellow pose this week with jazz singer Inga Swearingen and one of the queens of gospel, Jeralyn Steele. And cowboys Dusty and Lefty are back -- they've been invited to town to teach cowboy studies at university. They've brought their cattle along and Lefty is looking forward to exploring the power of ideas with the students. It gets complicated when postmodern theory comes up against Lefty's yodelling based syllabus.
