Off the Rails: Memoirs of a Train Addict by Lisa St Aubin de Terán
At the tender age of 8, Lisa achieved her childhood ambition and, wagging school, travelled alone by train from her home in London to Brighton, on the south coast of England. Although not quite as exotic as the Brighton of her imagination, Lisa still became hooked on this means of escape from a troublesome childhood.
Through family crises, various husbands, lovers, children and assorted eccentrics, this is Lisa's entertaining account of her sometimes haphazard means of progressing through life, sometimes across entire continents.
Lisa St Aubin de Terán was born in 1953, and her first novel was published in 1982, earning her a place on the Granta list of 'Best Young Novelists'. She has since published a number of novels, works of memoir, short stories and poetry.
