Lessons from the UK

How do you choose a school?

If you're a parent, you probably want as much information as possible to help you make your decision. You might like to know how the school performs on literacy and numeracy and whether music and art are part of the curriculum.

As part of its 'Education Revolution', the Rudd government wants schools to report on everything from attendance and numeracy standards to the number of Indigenous kids on the roll.

The government says this information will help it target funding to the schools that need it the most.

But will it work? Britain is well down this path, but Associate Professor Frank Bongiorno says we ought to be cautious about many elements of the UK system.
