The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has announced he will make federal education funding conditional on agreement from the states and territories that they provide information about the performance of schools around the country.

He will take the plan to COAG later this year as part of the government's reforms to the education system.

He announced his plans at the Press Club in Canberra.
