Tackling truancy
It used to be called truancy, now it's known as 'school refusal', but whatever the name, it's on the federal government's radar this week with new legislation being introduced in Parliament.
The government's approach will see families lose welfare payments for three months if their children continually miss school.
Welfare bodies say it's punitive and they're asking for evidence to show it will work.
The state government in Victoria is looking at introducing new guidelines on school attendance and we hear the perspective of the Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals.
