Testing, testing: Professor Gordon Stanley
This year, children in years 3, 5 and 7 will for the first time sit national tests.
The results will provide a useful measure of how children in the different states and territories, and their different systems, are performing.
The usefulness of tests and comparisons will soon be the daily concern of leading educator Professor Gordon Stanley.
He's been head of the NSW Board of Studies for around a decade but his focus will now be international as he takes up a new post at Oxford University.
