Blueprint of a Future Australian: Sunday May 13, 5pm

The world is entering a new period of intellectual revolution in the biological
sciences. Biotechnology is already bringing about radical changes in the way we
treat disease and the way we are able to reproduce. In the future it will alter
our bodies and our lifespan. We will also be presented with new ethical
dilemmas, about who gets access to the new technology, about whether we embark on a process which will see our species fundamentally re-engineered, and about what happens to those who get left behind.

Speaker: Robert Winston
"Engineering Reproduction: Will We Still be Human at the End of the 21st Century?"   [Transcript]

Lord Robert Winston is Professor of Fertility Studies at London University. He helped develop gynaecological microsurgery and techniques for sterilisation reversal. Currently he researches transgenic technology and is Chairman of Britain’s House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology. He’s also the presenter of the awarding winning BBC TV series The Human Body and The Superhuman and well recognised for his communication of often complex science to a wide public audience.
