Australian colonial history
If you asked most people about America's Wild West they'd say it was uniquely colourful and violent. Edgar Penzig, a leading historian of Australian bushranging, argues that this is an illusion created by Hollywood. He says that in colonial times we Australians were wilder than anything Hollywood put on the screen.
