This week sees the anniversary of the dropping of the atom bomb on Hiroshima in 1945, and we revisit the argument about just why that was done.
For decades there has been debate over Truman's motives. Did he really think it necessary in order to end the war, or was it a demonstration for the Soviet Union?
Robert Maddox refutes the revisionist argument that before the dropping of the bomb Japan was on the verge of surrender.
