Eat Ate

Guy Mirabella was born in Melbourne and now lives on the Mornington Peninsula with his family and now cooks at Shop Ate Café and Store in Mt Eliza. But he has also spent much of his life as a designer and a teacher of design, and, as a graphic designer, he has designed a lot of cookbooks (as well as writing quite a few).

So this week, we talk to Guy about design and cookbooks. It's easy, perhaps too easy, to make comparisons between designing and cooking, though his food is Italian and Italian food seems to be more about sensuality and flavour than appearance. So do he see any connections between design and cooking?

And despite the beauty of his book - in fact, because of the beauty of your book - you might wonder whether you want it in your kitchen. It doesn't look like something you would want to get splashed or greasy. So, as somebody who's designed a number of cookbooks, does he think it's possible for a cookbook to be too beautiful and stylish?
