Middle-class public housing
|
We take a rather frank and challenging look at what is likely to happen to the middle-class baby boomers in Australia when they find themselves looking for a house after they retire. Economist Brian Haratsis says that many of us -- that's you and me -- will quite likely find our way into a new class of public housing and even a new style of housing -- mobile homes.
Traditionally public housing has been there to support the less financially able end of the market, but this perception will need to change if we are to keep living according to our increased expectations of life -- well-designed houses, access to good facilities, new cars, and the desire to travel -- in other words, living the good life Australians are increasingly becoming accustomed too.
