Republican convention opens
It's now over to the Republicans to showcase their presidential candidate, John McCain, at their four-day convention which opens today.
But unlike the Democratic convention last week, this one will be a much more subdued affair, after Hurricane Gustav forced organisers to scale back proceedings with both President George W Bush and his deputy Dick Cheney pulling out to deal with the storm.
The opening of the convention has also been marred by revelations that John McCain's newly appointed running mate, Sarah Palin, has a 17-year-old unmarried pregnant daughter.
