Federal politics with Michelle Grattan - interest rate cut
This afternoon the Reserve Bank will announce an interest rate cut, the first rate cut in seven years. Yesterday the Opposition leader Brendan Nelson found himself in the middle of some trouble with his call for the RBA to cut by a half a per cent, a move some claim undermined the independence of the bank.
The bank is expected to cut rates by one quarter of a per cent.
