The limits of US power

Since the end of the Cold War, America's position as the world's economic and military superpower has been unassailable, but the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have started to chip away at that reputation. Any number of analysts have described America's open-ended global war on terrorism as a classic case of imperial over-reach, stretching the country economically, politically and militarily. And while the American military extends itself overseas, those at home are encouraged to live as if there is no war and their lives aren't being adversely affected.
