Business tackles government over climate change

Heavy industry continues to ratchet up the pressure on the Rudd government over its plans for a carbon emissions trading scheme. Last night in a speech to the Sydney Institute, the president of the Business Council of Australia, Greg Gailey, reiterated his warning that if the government doesn't offer more generous compensation to trade-exposed industries under its emissions trading scheme, companies will simply move offshore, with the loss of Australian jobs and billions of dollars of investment. Tomorrow the Resources Minister, Martin Ferguson, will hold a crisis meeting with representatives of Australia's biggest companies to hear their concerns.
