Science with Chris Smith - Cure for the herpes virus?
This week Chris Smith looks at the possibility of a cure for the common herpes virus. Something like 80% of us are infected, though for the vast majority, the virus is in its 'switched off' state. When it periodically 'switches on', infectious lesions can result, like the painful cold sores we're familiar with. There's no vaccine, and most treatments just alleviate the symptoms.
