The week ahead in business and finance
As the old saying goes, when Wall Street sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold. This has certainly been true of the past six months as the continuing credit crisis, and now soaring oil prices take their toll on global share markets. Wall Street shed another 106 points on Saturday morning after world oil prices briefly shot past $142 US a barrel, and fears returned about the health of the US banking sector. The US market is now teetering on the brink of an official bear market, but the Australian sharemarket is already there.
