Mixed response to welfare changes
Before the election Labor promised to give more help to the unemployed both in skills training and finding work. It also promised to soften the former government's breaching system, which many critics had labelled draconian, unfair and cruel. The president of the Welfare Rights Network, Michael Raper, says the government's first promise has been met but the second only partially so.
