Bilawal Zardari Bhutto to lead PPP

Leading a political party in Pakistan is a difficult enough assignment on its own, but imagine taking over a party as a 19-year-old after your mother has been assassinated.

In Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto's son Bilawal has fronted a press conference where it was announced he would take over as chairman of the Pakistan People's Party. Bilawal Zardari Bhutto is a history student at Oxford. His father, Asif Ali Zardari, will run the party on a day-to-day basis until he finishes his studies. Neither will run for the position of prime minister. That role is likely to be filled by Makhdoom Amin Fahim, a former aide to Benazir Bhutto.

At that same press conference it was announced that the Pakistan People's Party want the election to go ahead on January 8. Pakistan's election commission is due to make a decision about that later today.
