He was a reclusive, anti-social celibate and his genius way back in the 1600s still forms the basis of our knowledge of the world and how it works.

Most of us grow up understanding Isaac Newton's laws of motion before we're even taught the theory behind them. Why does an apple fall to the ground from a tree? Well, because of gravity of course!
