Moon Unit Zappa, daughter of rock legend Frank Zappa, talks to Anna Hipsley about her new, loosely auto-biographical book called "America the Beautiful".

6:37: MID-EAST HINGE:
Sholomo Slonin, professor of American studies at the Hebrew University and Abdul Hadi, head of the Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs update the situation in the Middle East. Six more Palestinian youths were killed over the weekend, bringing the death toll to 210 since the violence errupted in late September.

6:48: US ELEX LATEST:
David Cardwell, the former director of Florida Division of Elections and an attorney who specialises in election law and Anthony Kronman, Dean of the Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut talk about the US Presidential elections. Election officials in the State of Florida have agreed to the painstaking task of manually recounting some 425,000 votes in Palm Beach County - after a sample count showed a small gain for Vice President Al Gore.

Michelle Grattan, political correspondent with the Sydney Morning Herald updates the political scene from Canberra.

7:43: WASHINGTON UPDATE:
Linda Wertheimer, host of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" talks about the US Presidential election and speculates on how the race will pan out over the next three weeks.

7:48: VIC HANGING BEAM:
Diane Gardiner, public programmes manager at the Old Melbourne Jail talks about the gallows at the Old Melbourne jail that are about to be brought back into service. The original timber beam from which the noose hanged has been re-installed - in the name of historical authenticity.

7:55: NSW MOUNTIES:
Don Eyb, senior sergeant with the NSW Mounted Police, talks about the unit's 175th anniversary. It's the oldest continuous mounted police unit in the world.

8:06: TURKEY WRECK:
Mark Spencer a Sydney-based dentist, diver and photographer went on a diving expedition to proove the authenticity of the AE2 - the first vessel to successfully penetrate the defence of the Dardanelles Strait during the Gallipoli campaign of 1915. For decades, it's been lost to history, resting in a mystery location on the seabed, off the coast of Turkey. It's been found!

8:12: IT MONEY:
Mike Hilsden, CEO of Newport Technology Fund, talks about Australia shaking off its "old economy" tag. The Federal Government has just announced it's funding four venture capital funds to the tune of $90 million to invest in Australian 'start-up'technology-based companies. Mike's company was one of those involved.

8:17: TASSIE OLD GROWTH:
Tim Cadman has just completed a report titled 'The Clearcut Case: How the KYOTO Protocol Could Become a Driver for Deforestation'. He talks about tree clearing of old growth forests in Tasmania which is being replanted with eucalyptus trees and claimed as a carbon sink for Japan's largest power utility.

8:24: TEE VEE:
Shane Danielson talks with Helen Thomas about the CNN coverage of the US Presidential election and about "Superhuman" - a new series screening at 8:30 tonight on the ABC.
