An umbrella group of unions and major industry groups is calling on the federal government to get serious about its election promises to tackle the skills shortage. The National Skills Policy Collaboration has drawn up a plan to solve the nation's skills crisis including reviewing the traineeship program and creating a strong vision for the future of TAFE. It says action needs to be taken or Australia risks a job shortfall of 240,000 people over the next decade. Jim Barron is the CEO of one of the participating organisations, Group Training Australia.
