Colin the whale

What can be done to save Colin the whale? A baby humpback turned up hungry and distressed in Sydney's Pittwater earlier this week. With its mother nowhere to be seen, it has been suckling up to yacht hulls and there are fears it might be trying to beach itself.

Take your dog to work day

Workplaces around the country are taking part in the inaugural Take Your Dog to Work Day Australia. The event has been a big hit in the United States but today is the first time it has been tried in Australia. It was started in the United States to raise awareness of unwanted pets that needed a home, but in Australia organisers are also trying to raise the profile of working dogs.

International attention on plans to cull kangaroos in Canberra

Emotions have been running high in Canberra over the weekend as protesters gathered to fight plans to cull up to four hundred kangaroos from a Defence Department site to the west of the city. The demonstration at the gates of the site drew all comers (including one protester dressed as a kangaroo), animal rights supporters from interstate, and even members of the Aboriginal tent embassy. Culling is expected to begin sometime this week.

Dinky, the singing dingo

The Red Centre is about to lose two of its best known and loved identities. One is Jim Cotterill, owner of the Stuarts Well Roadhouse, 70 kilometres south of Alice Springs, who is selling up and retiring after 48 years. The other is Dinky the singing Dingo. Dinky has been entertaining at the roadhouse for the past eight years and over that time has achieved worldwide fame. As Mike Woods reports, for Dinky it's just about all over, red rover.
